This tool supports .docx files (the modern Word format used since Word 2007). Older .doc files are not supported. If you have a .doc file, open it in Word or LibreOffice and save it as .docx first.

Yes. Headings, bold, italic, underline, links, ordered and unordered lists, and basic paragraph structure are all preserved in the Markdown output.

Tables in Word documents are converted to HTML tables by the parser and then to Markdown tables where possible. Complex merged cells may not convert perfectly.

Images embedded in Word documents are referenced but not embedded in the Markdown output. The converter focuses on text content and structure.
